CA Latino Caucus Foundation Announces 2018 Recipients of Statewide Scholarship Program

(SACRAMENTO) - The California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF) announced today that 60 students across California have been selected to receive a 2018 CLLCF Scholarship. The Foundation has continued its commitment to helping students in California further their education.

In its fourth year of operation, the CLLCF Scholarship Program received over 900 applications from throughout the state, more than double the applications compared to 2017. Winners were selected from the highly competitive pool of applicants, and evaluated using the following criteria: academic performance, personal statements, extracurricular activities, leadership positions held, special awards and honors received, and work history. Each winner will receive a $1000 scholarship for educational purposes.

“We continue to be impressed with the quality of the applications we receive every year and this year’s recipients continue to raise the bar,” said California Latino Legislative Caucus Chairman Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego). “The 60 scholarship recipients are not only passionate about furthering their education, but among them are some of the hardest working students we have seen to date. We read about incredible plans and ideas for California in the application essays and it is clear that these students are committed to making positive change in the world.”

“Access to a quality education can provide an incomparable foundation for a students’ future,” added Caucus Vice Chair, Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (D-San Diego). “We are extremely pleased that the number of applicates more than doubled from last year. This is yet another indicator of the drive and work ethic in the next generation of students. I could not be more delighted with the students receiving the 2018 CLLCF Scholarships.”
